As all the others whipped about, vainly hoping for what would never come to be, Kahlan smiles. Part of her wonders if he could be anything but a rogue. As each face fills with recognition and understanding, Kahlan stands like a beacon amidst it all. When the chocolate appears by her daughter's feet she has but a moment before she too is caressed by the breeze.
I love you was felt more than heard in her mind and Kahlan barely cover her mouth as she smiles. It would look terribly incriminating if she were to smile at Theoren's funeral! You are a rogue! Be well and know that we all love you. I miss you even now and love you dearly. Whether or not he would hear what her mind had to say was one thing, but he would feel it without at doubt. In the time that they had spent together it was as if they had become entwined somehow, one fed off the other much as beings such as they might do.
Behind Kahlan the groan of the wood and the familiar crack and splinter begins, and the High Queen simply steps out of range as the ashes and red hot embers scatter. The embers dance about her feet for a moment before extinguishing in the snow as it falls thicker now than before. Already Aerillia was being urged inside and the recognition in her eyes had Kahlan wondering if she could be lashed down to a bed for much longer.
Kahlan looks almost as if she might have lost her mind. She is the only person standing outside without some sort of heavy cloak or coat over her body and just a thin sheet of fabric between her and the icy snow. Turning toward the first mate, Kahlan extends her hand to him. "Thank you Jonathan for your service. I know Theo would want that known. If you can find it in your hearts to work again I am able to offer you all jobs on the Dawn to work for me. I know that it is not the same but I ask that you take a week to consider it. See the sights of Emain Macha, we have one of the largest port towns in this Kingdom." When the man agrees to consider what she has to say, Kahlan turns from him and the crew to look at the only other person left in the immediate area is Willow. Holding out her hands to the young girl, she feels the addition of a cloak to her shoulders and glances over her shoulders to see Jonathan walking away from her. She had no doubt that if he accepted her offer that she would become very fond of the man. He was infinately more likable than some of the people she had to speak to daily.
"Let us go inside precious." Kahlan says as she looks back to Willow with a smile. "Its getting a little cold out." And with that Kahlan takes hold of her daughter's hand and heads back to the Castle.
